Homemade Sugar Cookie Ice Cream

Photobucket
I grew up on homemade ice cream.
Making homemade ice cream is a way of life when you live in the South.
It's an event.
A Southern tradition.
Homemade ice cream turns an ordinary day into extraordinary!
For as long as I can remember,
one of my favorite things to do,
is crunch sugar cookies up into homemade vanilla ice cream.
I've never tried it with store bought ice cream.
That's because it wouldn't be the same.
I don't waste those kind of calories on store bought ice cream.
Sugar cookies crumbled up into homemade vanilla ice cream is MAGIC!
Not kidding!
Seriously.
It is.
PhotobucketThe other day I got to dreaming about it!
So I made up a recipe for it!
And just did it!
After years of crumbling up sugar cookies in homemade ice cream it was time to make it happen!
The magic begins with sugar cookies! Photobucket Pillsbury Sugar Cookies! Photobucket Pillsbury Sugar Cookies are crunchy and jam packed with sugar cookie flavor.
Feel free to make homemade sugar cookies.
But honestly, Pillsbury Sugar Cookies are THE BEST for this recipe.
Bake the cookies according to the directions on package.
Cool the cookies.
Crumble about 20 cookies into bit size pieces. Photobucket Seal cookie bits in a ziploc bag.
Pop bag into freezer til needed.
Now for the ice cream.
Here's the original Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream recipe my mother has always made.
This was my handwriting in college. ;)Photobucket This recipe is suitable using a 4 quart ice cream freezer.
Koralee of Bluebird Notes also uses the Cuisinart.
She used the very same freezer to whip up
all the ice cream recipes in her soon to be published book~
Here's the recipe for 2 quarts:Photobucket 2 extra large eggs {beaten}
2 cups sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cans Carnations Milk
3-5 teaspoons pure vanilla {depends on how vanilla~y you like it}
2 1/2 cups milk
3 cups Pillsbury Sugar Cookie bits
Beat eggs using a hand held mixer for about 30 seconds. Photobucket Add salt and sugar. Continue to mix for about one minute. Photobucket Add Carnation Milk one can at a time.
Beat about 30 seconds to a minute between cans. Add the vanilla. I like lots of vanilla.
Add 3 teaspoons then give it a taste. Add more vanilla if you like. Photobucket Now you'll add the milk. Photobucket Continue to beat until bubbly. Photobucket Now it's time to pour the mix into ice cream freezer. Photobucket Photobucket Leave a little space at the top for adding sugar cookies. Photobucket Crank it up and let it churn.
When the ice cream is almost done...add 2-3 cups of cookie bits and crumbs. Photobucket Add the cookie bits a little at a time. Photobucket Use a spoon to push the bits down into the ice cream as needed.
Make sure you pour in all the crumbs. Photobucket Turn freezer off. Photobucket How good does this look? Photobucket Miracles happen!
Transfer ice cream to plastic container. Photobucket Freeze several hours or overnight.
 Freezing is optional.
If you like ice cream soft and creamy...eat it right out of the ice cream freezer. Photobucket Homemade Sugar Cookie Ice Cream!
My very own creation! Photobucket We've made two batches of this stuff in the last two days!
Honestly.
 I can't help myself.
I just love it when sugar cookies and homemade ice cream become one!
For real.
I do.
xo
Please be my best friend and make this.
Heart you all.
Happy Week!
