I've always loved garland!
And of course I love HEARTs!Not to mention my LOVE for scrap fabric!
Garland + HEARTS + Scrap Fabric =
ScraPPy HEART Garland!
Here's how to make this happy garland:
Pull 8-10 pieces of scrap fabric.
You'll need 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 yards of ribbon to hang the hearts.
You'll also need stringy scraps of fabric.Stringy scraps will be sewn into the top of each heart. They'll also be used to tie bows and hang
the hearts to make garland.
You'll also need:
I used a sewing machine but you can totally sew the hearts by hand.
Lay heart template on double layer of fabric.
Trace around the template.
Cut each heart with pinking shears to prevent fraying.
Iron each heart.
Whoopsie!
Forgot to mention you'll need cotton balls for stuffing the hearts.
Scrap fabric can also be used for stuffing.
Adjust the stitch length on your machine.
Longer stitches will present more of a hand~stitched look.
Begin sewing at the top of heart using 1/4" seam allowance.
At the point of the heart, stop sewing leaving the needle in the fabric.
Lift presser foot and turn fabric pointing presser foot up the other side of heart.
Continue sewing 1/4 of the way up that side of the heart.
Leave presser foot down.
Take 4-5 cotton balls~spread them out a bit.
Open the heart and stuff it with cotton balls.
Close it back up.
Continue to sew.
Stop about an inch before meeting the beginning stitch.
Poke one of the stringy scraps~enclosing loop~down in the opening of the heart.
Sew over the scrap~closing the seam.
Don't forget to secure the seam by backstitching.
Take 2 strings of scrap and tie a bow at the top of the heart.
Continue with remaining hearts.
Ready to create the garland!
Tie two loops at the end of 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 yards of ribbon.
Lay the ribbon flat.
Tie the first heart in the center of the ribbon.
Begin building the garland by tying hearts out from the center heart.
Hanging the center heart a bit longer creates a sweet look.
There you have it!
ScraPPy HEART Garland!
What a FUN gift!
I'm totally hanging these HAPPY HEARTS in the BLOOM sewing studio.
ENJOY the week!
LOVE is in the AIR!
HaPPy Valentine's Day to YOU!
Thanks for all the LOVE you bring my way!
