I've got one thing to say.
Making homemade salted caramel is one of the most exciting things I've ever done!
I was beyond giddy when this concoction was bubbling.
It was very intense.
I felt like I was doing some kind of MAD scientist experiment.
Kimberly was texting me warning me not to leave the caramel...
not even for a moment!
DO NOT LEAVE THE CARAMEL!
Once the caramel is ready...cool it off a bit.
Whip up the butter and powdered sugar.
I am telling you.
Pouring homemade salted caramel in the frosting was one of the highlights of my life! ;)
Have you ever?
And I mean ever.
EVER...
seen anything that looks this good?

My mom used to make this all the time... it was what I requested for my birthday cake (Chocolate of course) The icing would get a little hard and we would poke a hole in the icing and pour cold milk into the little hole and have a soppy chocolate cake with caramel icing...... mmmmmmmmm brings back memories (I am 62)

ReplyDeleteI tried this recipe, twice. The first time was really good so I planned to use it for a potluck. Happy accident, I didn't have enough ingredients to make the salted caramel again, but had some per-made salted caramel sauce and OH MY GRACIOUS! Never making my own again! Here's a link to their website: http://www.le-caramel.com
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this. Did you make it a buttercream frosting or do the creamcheese one that is on the link you posted?

Wow, I can't wait to try this!
ReplyDeleteSaw this on Pinterest! It looks fabulous. Yours doesn't appear to use cream cheese and theirs calls for it. Did you use cream cheese. Your color is so much prettier too.
ReplyDeleteWow! Looks decadent.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! But the icing looks a little runny to me. Was it easy to ice the sides of that really tall (and surely amazing) cake?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, your frosting color was so much better looking than theirs, what did you do differently to keep that beautiful amber color?
ReplyDeleteI have the same question as a lot of people: did you use the cream cheese like the recipe calls for?
ReplyDeleteI guess the last picture is the most beautiful picture I have seen today. or ever.... This frosting looks perfect in texture and colour!
ReplyDeleteDo any of the questions get answered? That's my question
ReplyDeleteCan You add the ingredients in European sizes.??
